Digital Photography And Imaging - Week 2
DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY AND IMAGING - Week 2
October 01, 2025
Lectures:
This week, Mr. Fauzi talked about basic composition in digital photography and imaging.Good composition makes an image more balanced and easier to understand.
He first introduced the focal point.
A strong focal point helps guide the viewer’s eyes to the main part of the image.
It allows us to express our ideas clearly and makes the image more meaningful.
The focal point can be created through contrast, size, or color differences.
The next topic was scale and hierarchy.
Changing the size of objects can show their level of importance.Hierarchy helps the viewer move naturally from the main subject to the supporting elements.
Then he explained balance.
Every element has a visual weight.Large or textured objects appear heavier, while small or flat ones look lighter.A well-balanced composition makes the picture look steady and comfortable.
He talked about white space, also known as negative space.White space helps make the design cleaner and brings more focus to the subject. It also gives the entire layout a sense of breathing room.
The Rule of Thirds is another method of composition.By dividing the frame into nine equal parts and placing the subject along the lines or intersections, the image looks more natural. This method also helps to make better use of space and build a connection between the subject and the background.
The Golden Ratio is a proportion commonly found in nature. It helps create harmony and beauty in design. In visual composition, it guides the size and placement of elements. Many artists use this ratio to make their works more appealing.
Finally, Mr. Fauzi explained framing and cropping.Framing helps highlight the subject, while cropping removes unnecessary distractions. He encouraged us to try these techniques in our own creative work.

Tutorial:
Mr.Fauzi showed a demo video about how to make a basic collage. After watching it, we started to create our own collage based on the demonstration.

Practical:
We selected and cut out materials for our collage. Each of us created our own concept and story using the chosen elements. We needed to make three pre-compositions to test our layouts, and Mr.Fauzi would choose one as our final work.My three pre-compositions:
